This deliberately alters the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood, triggering a cascade of physiological effects.

- Phase 2 — Retention: After the final exhale, hold your breath (lungs empty) for as long as comfortable. Most beginners manage 1–2 minutes; experienced practitioners extend beyond 3.
- Phase 3 — Recovery breath: Inhale deeply and hold for 15 seconds before releasing. This constitutes one round. Repeat 3–4 rounds.
Safety Precautions
Never practice WHM breathing while driving, in water, or standing unsupported. The temporary light-headedness and tingling sensations are normal but can cause fainting if you're unsupported. People with epilepsy, cardiovascular conditions, or high blood pressure should consult a physician first.
